Teacher Week '13 - Organizing for Instruction

Hi everyone!
I'm here today for the Now Teach! Organizing for Instruction day of the Teacher Week '13 Link Party!

I'm not sure if this counts as "organization", but I wanted to share the one piece of furniture in my room that I couldn't live without...

Why do I need this? I sit on it. I read on it. I stand on it. It stores my teacherly things that I need in front of kids. It looks nice. It fits under my whiteboard. Kids can sit on it.

See? So many reasons! I love this shelf and it was one of my first classroom purchases. I use it as a bench, as a table, and as storage. I really like all the cute rocking chairs other teachers have that are all pretty and custom painted, but I don't think I could live without my shelf. I like the flexibility of being able to slide up and down the bench so kids can see the book. I like that it's low enough for kids to sit on it and share their work. I can stand on it if I need to really reach up and point to a letter. I store my student whiteboards and pens in one of the boxes. I store magnets and word games in the boxes. I use it like a table to hold my plans or papers or books. I can't emphasize enough how much this one piece of furniture has helped me! I even converted one of my teacher buddies (my frienemy) to get the same shelf for under her whiteboard. I actually added a second shelf this year so the bench spans my whole whiteboard. I'm actually going to get five more of the square boxes to fit in the holes so it's all nice and uniform.

My other organizational tools:
Lakeshore Monday - Friday organizational tubs. I use these to store my worksheets, books, and other things for each day of the week.

My Erin Condren Teacher Planner. I used it last year and loved it. Got myself a new, updated version for this year! I get that people like doing their plans electronically. I just HAVE to write my plans down in pencil.

There you have it! My most-used organizational tools! Now you can Hop over to Blog Hoppin' to see more from other teachers!
